The 2nd goal was deflating. The series of events leading up to the 3rd even more so. Ridiculous delay of game without being penalized and then the quick penalty the other way. |

The goal last night reminded me of the Steve Smith goal will less impact. Quick was just bad goaltending. Poop does happen. |

Gillis doesn't give a sh!t about finding playmakers for Kesler, hence my comment to trade him since he will never thrive in the current setup. I can think of 3 players off the top of my head that MG has passed up in UFA status that could have helped him (and their eventual salaries):
PA Parenteau (4m)
J Jokinen (3m minus some salary retained by CAR)
D Brunner (2.5m)
B Boyes (1m)
And this doesn't even get into trade possibilities

We aren`t going to win many games only scoring 1 goal. Some reasonable salaries there. |

Anyone know the deal with Nick Jensen? How bad did he hurt his shoulder? I see he's on the IR but for how long? |

Yup . Scoring has to be addressed. We need to find a top 3 guy for Sedins like Vanek
We need a second line . Once we do that and get to Higgins Hansen playing on the third line ,matching up against third pair Dmen goals will start going in.
We need to let go of some salary ,and make some trades. Booth Kes and at least one 4.5 + Dman has to be moved. Burrows may also need to be part of the package. If he is going to score 30 goals he stays but if he is just going to be a shut down guy then we have Hansen for that. |

He's in Utica but is still listed on the IR for the Canucks for some reason. Apparently the plan is to rehab down there and then let his play determine a call up spot. I would say he would be fighting for the 5th RW spot with Dale Weise. Considering the first 4 are Burrows, Hansen, Kassian, Richardson |

It's the 2nd line that should be addressed immediately. The Sedins + whoever will keep doing their thing. It can be left as is for now.
For the players I mentioned earlier, let's say MG signed D Brunner and B Boyes this summer. A healthy roster would look something like:
Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Boyes-Kesler-Brunner
Higgins-Schoreder-Hansen
Kassian-Santorelli-Booth
13th man: Weiss
Had we signed Brunner and Boyes we likely wouldn't have signed Richardson.
I think that immediately puts us in a better position and we wouldn't even have had to trade anyone. |

Here we go with the 4 million 4 th liner debate again
What a waste of money that could be used to find a second liner. |

He was injured so it's a moot argument. That 4th line, lining up against 4th line opposition, could be pretty effective though.
My point with the previous comment is that it wouldn't have taken much to get us into a much better position IMO. Gillis has to go. |

It's to early to tell how this team will perform IMO. I'm not saying that we shouldn't make moves, we should; but not for the sake of making moves.
I think everyone should be fair game and on the market except the following:
Sedins
Burrows
Garrison
Hamhuis
Bieksa
Edler
Shinkaruk
BoHo
Jensen
Richardson
Santorelli
Luongo
Lack
Hansen
Higgins
Kesler would be on this list, but I think he needs a change of scenery.

I agree that Gillis has to go but 2 core players should be moved also as well as Booth for whatever you can get (7 th)
Pick two
Edler
Kesler
Burrows
Hamhuis
Edler
Garrison

Kesler for so many reasons ,I agree . Once Gillis and Kes are gone I am sure the NHL will look at us differently and Burrows. |

I forgot Corrado and Gaunce
Here's the thing about shortening it too much though. Most of these guys are on contracts which are extremely favourable for a team which isn't rebuilding, and just retooling on the fly. For the next 4-5 years we have Garry, Higgins, Hansen, Edler, Hamhuis, and Bieksa on such team friendly contracts that it's hilarious.
Every year the cap goes up those contracts look better and better, and they place us in a advantageous position to acquire the right pieces. |

I only see Kesler being moved when he requests a trade. I've never been one of the guys saying trade him but have said for a couple of years I think he will request one in the future. |

I've always thought that he'd refuse to re sign after his contract is up. |
